About Writing RPGs with Laurie O'Connel (10:30 - 12:00)
Location NUA Duke Street
Role-playing games have been around forever, but they're exploding in popularity at the moment. They're a really effective storytelling method, and surprisingly, not very hard to write at all!
In this workshop, Laurie O'Connel, writer of Lichcraft, Hieronymus, Death Game and other RPGSs, will take you through the basics of writing a roleplaying game, with a particular focus on setting and niche.
In the workshop, we'll discuss the key ingredients that go into an RPG, a few hacks to make writing them easier, and common mistakes first time writers make. We'll do some group work, pitch our games to each other, and there will be an opportunity for a Q&A afterwards with Laurie.
