About An Evening With Ari Vatanen, John Thomas & Legendary Friends
This event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Western Mail Welsh International Rally organised by South Wales Automobile Club.
It was an event that launched the career of Ari Vatanen - arguably one of the greatest rally drivers of all time and certainly the greatest ambassador of our sport who came to the South Wales valleys in May 1975 to sit with one of Wales’s top co-drivers at that time in John Thomas. John had had a lot of success with the likes of Terry Brown, Roger Davies and Jeff Churchill, tutored by the legendary Randall Morgan & Derek Tucker, and he tells some fabulous and amusing stories from those golden days.
So please join us to listen to this fascinating and amusing story of how this deal came together, the build up to the rally, and the event itself – all told through the eyes of these two legends.
Joining them will be a host of well-known faces that also competed on the event in 1975 and listen to their recollection of one the best international rallies of the seventies & eighties.
We will also hear from other guests on their memories of this classic rally, when every May it attracted the world’s best crews to compete on some of the world's best roads, its gruelling non-stop 48-hour format testing the world’s best. There will also be a display of rally reports & photos from Welsh rallies down the years and we hope some surprises too.
This will be a truly amazing evening a one-off event and not to be missed by anyone who enjoys rallying.
