About West Surrey Wind Bands and World in Music Concert

Surrey Arts is proud to present The West Surrey Wind Bands and World in Music in Concert. Off the back of a fantastic Gala last term, we continue with collaborating across all genres of music making in Surrey!

The West Surrey Training Wind Band is a group for musicians approximately beginner to grade 4, and The West Surrey Wind Band is for wind, brass and percussion players grade 4 and above. They rehearse at the Surrey Arts West Centre based in Westfield Primary School, Woking.

West Surrey Wind Band gives members the chance to perform a wide variety of music, ranging from classic wind band repertoire, pop and rock tunes through to UK premieres of music from exciting new composers from around the world.

World in Music is an innovative and diverse ensemble giving young people the opportunity to embrace both western and non-western music traditions, providing opportunities to learn about unfamiliar cultures as well as developing friendships and of course, creating amazing music together! Using music as a tool, the ensemble continues to promote greater well-being and mental health in young people, help them to build musical skills and build understanding and friendship between children of all cultural backgrounds. Some of our young people joining the WiM ensemble today have lived experience of displacement, and we are pleased to be able to support them through our outreach work and welcome them to this performance.
