About Surrey Advanced Brass Ensemble (SABE), Brass Routes and Pyrford CofE Year 4 Primary Tuning UP Concert

The Surrey Advanced Brass Ensemble (SABE) is a symphonic brass ensemble comprising musicians from all over the Surrey area. The ensemble gives those players the chance to not only explore the music written for different types of brass groups, but also to get to use some of the related brass instruments that are not called for in orchestras, wind orchestras or jazz bands, such as cornets, flugel horns and even the sousaphone.

Brass Routes is a beginner brass ensemble based in Woking. The playing ranges from absolute beginner to grade 2/3. Many players follow the natural transition up through the Surrey Arts Ensemble route and past players are now playing in orchestras outside of Surrey such as the National Wind Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the European Youth Orchestra.

Year 4 students at the Pyrford Church of England School - Each student has the opportunity through the “Wider Opportunities Scheme” to play a brass instrument thus increasing the amount of music played in school. This scheme and the concerts offered has created a very strong tradition of students continuing with their brass studies going on to play in many school and Surrey Arts ensembles.
