About The Bute Wind Quintet

We celebrate György Kurtág’s 100th birthday with an early masterpiece, alongside exhilarating C20th music by great composers with quite intimidating reputations. Fear not, because Kurtág’s close friend Ligeti is here at his liveliest, quirkiest and wittiest; Berio’s amusing “entertainment for children” is a spirited set of animal impressions; Stockhausen’s elegy is sublimely poignant. All these contrasting moods coalesce in the best wind quintet ever composed. If you like the lush melodious, mysterious, mysticism of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, you will be utterly entranced by his Op.26.
