About Birnam Highland Games
The Birnam Highland Games are a traditional Scottish Highland Games held amidst the stunning scenery of Perthshire. First held in 1864, they now take place annually on the last Saturday in August. We warmly invite you to join us for our next family-friendly gathering on Saturday 30th August 2025. Come and experience the fun, tradition, and culture that have made the Games a beloved event for over 150 years.
The day begins with events starting from 10am, building up to the official opening at 12 noon – marked in true Highland style with the Blairgowrie Rattray and District Pipe Band marching from the centre of Dunkeld, led by the Chieftain, Thomas Steuart Fothringham. A stirring start to what promises to be a fantastic day!
We’re delighted to welcome a mix of home-grown talent and international athletes to compete across a variety of traditional Highland events, including Highland Dancing, Piping, Running, and the ever-popular Heavies – now featuring exciting new events for women.
This year’s main highlights include the World Haggis Eating Championship, the Children’s Races, and the wildly entertaining Mad Kiltie Dash – part of a packed schedule that guarantees something for everyone.
Visitors can enjoy a handpicked selection of food and drink stalls featuring some of the finest producers from Dunkeld, Birnam, and the surrounding area. A range of local craft stalls will also be on site, offering beautiful handmade items to browse and buy.
A refreshment tent will offer a selection of drinks including local craft beer from Wasted Degrees Brewery – winner of the Brewer of the Year 2024 – providing the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the day’s festivities.
It’s a fun-filled day out for the whole family – with ice cream, a funfair, and children’s race to keep the wee ones happy. We look forward to welcoming you.
