About Aberdeenshire Doors Open Days 2025 Finzean Bucket Mill

The water-powered Finzean Bucket Mill is a Grade A listed historic site, unique in Britain. The mill was built by Peter Brown in the 1850’s to make wooden buckets, or pails, using timber from the Forest of Birse. The Bucket Mill was operated by three generations of the Brown family, before Stan Moyes, took over the running and restoration of the mill in the 1970’s.

In 1999, Birse Community Trust became the owner of the mill and although the mill has not been operational now for some time, we are working towards installing a new miller and slowly starting to repair and bring the mill back to life.
